Pointing your domains to your web hosting account
The first thing that we need to do is to ensure that you have a domain hosted on your new web hosting account. This will either be one that we have registered for you during the purchase of your hosting account, or it will be one that you already have registered.
Domains are pointed to your hosting account by setting their nameservers to ours, these nameservers are registered at the global root servers who will then know where to look for your web site. When someone types your domain URL (such as http://www.yourdomain.com) into a browser address bar, or uses a link to your site, the various root servers will then send a request for the relevant pages to our servers. Our servers will respond with the correct location of your web site and any particular pages requested. This process takes a matter of milliseconds, after which the relevant web pages of your site will be displayed in the browser requesting them.
If we have registered a domain for you, we will point this domain to your hosting account by setting their nameservers to ours for you. If you already own a domain and want to host it on your account (either as the main domain or as an addon domain), then you will have to set the nameservers for that domain yourself. This can normally be done from within the domain management console for the domain registration agent you used when you first purchased it. The nameservers that you will have to set will be included in your hosting account activation/welcome email, please contact Support if you need a reminder of these.
note: - IP addresses may or may not be needed. If they are needed, please refer to your welcome email or contact Support
Please note that it can take from 1 to 48 hours for all of the root servers on the worldwide web to update with the new nameserver information so that your web site becomes visible on the internet by using your domain's usual URL (e.g. http://www.yourdomainname.com).
If you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact Support.
