How to set up and configure email accounts in cPanel

Create and manage email addresses

You'll need to create one or more email addresses for use with your web hosting

You must first log into your cPanel hosting control panel - if you have lost or forgotten your username and/or password, you must email support and ask for the details (lost passwords will mean a password reset).

Once logged in, we will proceed with managing email accounts ...

First, click on the Email Accounts icon email accounts icon in the Mail section

The first section of the Email Accounts page will offer you the facility to add a new email address, we will do this first. You'll need to choose a name for your email address and enter it into the first box ('Email:') and then choose a password (remember to keep this complex enough to deter guessing - there is a password strength indicator to show how good your password is, aim to achieve a Very Strong level). You can also set the quota (amount of disk space that can be used up by this email account). We strongly recommend that you avoid setting the quota to unlimited (email attacks can quickly fill email quotas and leave you with no disk space left in your hosting account). Use a sensible setting, such as 100mb.

Once you've entered the email address name, password, confirmed the password and entered a Quota setting, click on the Create button.

Now you'll enter a confirmation page which will tell you that the email address has been created, showing the email address and quota set on the previous page. A little further down the page is a button to automatically add this new email account to Microsoft Outlook.

To create more email addresses, click the Go Back link at the base of the page and repeat the steps above.

Now that you have created one or more email addresses, you can manage them from the same Email Accounts page. There are a number of things you can now do ...

  • Configure your IMAP or POP3 mail client (i.e. Outlook, Outlook Express, Mac Mail.app) to send and receive emails from your desktop
  • Delete email addresses/accounts
  • Change Password
  • Change Quota
  • Check Webmail (view, manage and compose emails using your web browser)

Tips!

Avoid dictionary words.

Avoid familiar items (names, phone number, etc).

Use a combination of letters, numbers, and special characters.

Use more characters (7+).

Warning: Our system employs a complex Intrusion Detection and Defence System which will detect multiple log in failures in a short space of time - this will result in the IP address of the log in attempts being blocked from the entire web server. If you forget or enter your username or password incorrectly, you may therefore become blocked from our server. You should email support and explain the problem to have the block removed.
